Norway vs France
FIFA World Cup 2026
Gillette Stadium, Foxborough
Group I, June 26, 2026. 19:00

Foxborough gets one of the strongest final-round matchups of the group stage. Norway have already secured knockout football after two exciting wins, beating Iraq 4-1 and Senegal 3-2. France have matched that pace with a 3-1 win over Senegal and a controlled 3-0 victory against Iraq. Both teams are scoring freely, both arrive with elite forwards in form, and the direct duel between Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé gives the match a headline-level edge. With first place in Group I still at stake, this does not feel like a game built for caution. Over 2.5 Goals at 1.68 is the strongest angle.

Norway

Norway have been one of the most entertaining teams in Group I. Ståle Solbakken’s side opened with a commanding 4-1 win over Iraq, then came through a much tougher test against Senegal. The 3-2 victory was not comfortable, but it showed that Norway can survive pressure, respond in key moments and keep finding goals even when the match becomes chaotic.

The attacking structure is clear and dangerous. Martin Ødegaard dictates tempo, finds passing lanes into the box and connects midfield with the front line. Haaland has already delivered multiple decisive finishes at this tournament, while Alexander Sørloth adds power, aerial threat and constant pressure on centre-backs. Ørjan Nyland and Kristoffer Ajer give Norway physical presence at the back, but France will test them at a much higher speed than Iraq or Senegal.

The concern is defensive space. Senegal scored twice and showed that Norway can be vulnerable when opponents attack quickly behind the midfield line. Against France, that issue becomes even more dangerous. If Norway’s full-backs push high or the midfield loses balance after turnovers, Mbappé, Michael Olise and runners from deep can turn those spaces into clear chances very quickly.

France

France have moved through the first two matches with authority and without unnecessary panic. Against Senegal, Didier Deschamps’ side improved after halftime and turned the match into a 3-1 win. Against Iraq, they controlled the game more cleanly, winning 3-0 as Mbappé scored twice in his 100th international appearance and Ousmane Dembélé added another goal.

The French profile remains extremely efficient. They do not need sterile possession to create danger; they can sit in control, absorb pressure and then explode through pace, dribbling and vertical passing. Mike Maignan gives security in goal, Jules Koundé provides defensive balance and progression, while Aurélien Tchouaméni and Adrien Rabiot protect the middle of the pitch. In attack, Mbappé and Olise offer speed, movement and one-on-one threat in every open lane.

The key challenge is Norway’s penalty-box power. Haaland and Sørloth can punish crosses, direct service and second balls, while Ødegaard only needs a little time to find the right delivery. France should still have enough pace to hurt Norway in transition, but they cannot allow the game to become a repeated sequence of Norwegian entries into the box.

Match Prediction

Both teams have already achieved the main objective of reaching the knockout stage, but first place in the group keeps the stakes meaningful. Norway have seven goals in two matches, France have six, and neither side looks likely to approach this as a slow, protective draw.

Norway can threaten through Ødegaard’s service, Haaland’s finishing and Sørloth’s physical presence. France can answer through Mbappé’s pace, Olise’s movement and quick attacking transitions. With both attacks in rhythm and enough defensive questions on each side, one early goal could quickly turn this into an open, high-quality contest.

Why This Top-Spot Clash Points Toward Goals

Norway have already scored four against Iraq and three against Senegal. Solbakken’s attacking structure is producing chances consistently, and Haaland is in excellent tournament rhythm.

France bring the same level of firepower, with six goals in two matches, Mbappé in sharp form and several runners capable of attacking Norway’s defensive gaps.

The battle for first place should keep the match competitive. Both teams can afford to attack with confidence because qualification is secured, but group leadership remains a valuable prize.
