Frosinone vs Lecce. Serie A 2026/27, Matchday 9. 29.10.2026. Stadio Benito Stirpe, Frosinone. 19:30.

Eight Goals in Bergamo Turned Frosinone Into One of the Stories of the Round, but Lecce Will Try to Drag Them Into a Much More Controlled Contest.

A remarkable 4-4 draw with Atalanta and a 4-2 home victory over Sassuolo have turned Frosinone's recent matches into goal-filled spectacles. Massimiliano Alvini's team have unexpectedly established themselves in the upper half of the table and continue to surprise opponents with an aggressive attacking approach. Antonio Raimondo has become one of the standout forwards of the early season, while several midfielders are also contributing goals.

Lecce are capable of producing surprises of their own. Eusebio Di Francesco's side recently demolished Udinese 3-0 away from home but followed that performance with a 2-0 defeat against Juventus. The visitors now travel without one of their starting centre-backs, further complicating an already difficult defensive assignment. Even so, the history of this matchup points toward a calmer game than Frosinone's latest results suggest, making the tactical battle between Alvini's intensity and Lecce's likely caution especially important.

Frosinone

Frosinone's return to Serie A has gone far better than expected. After eight rounds, Alvini's side sit sixth with 14 points and a 17-13 goal difference, having recorded four wins, two draws and two defeats. Their home form has been particularly encouraging, with victories over Como and Sassuolo. The 4-2 success against Sassuolo was driven by Raimondo, who completed a hat trick after Giacomo Calo had also scored. The following match at Atalanta was even more dramatic. Frosinone trailed, recovered, fell behind again and eventually earned a 4-4 draw through late contributions from Calo and Aleksa Terzic. The attacking confidence is obvious, but eight goals conceded across the last three league rounds underline how much risk comes with their current approach.

Alvini wants his team to play proactively regardless of the opponent. His preferred 4-2-3-1 is built around intense pressing, quick progression through central areas and constant movement from the attacking midfielders and wide players. The double pivot is expected to start attacks while also protecting the defence after turnovers, but that balance has not always been reliable. Sassuolo and Atalanta both found space once Frosinone's first pressure was broken, while quick switches of play have also caused problems for the defensive line. Alvini has made it clear that he does not want to abandon the initiative, but against Lecce there may be more value in controlling the tempo rather than forcing another end-to-end game. The hosts should still dominate more of the ball, but avoiding unnecessary turnovers will be critical.

Raimondo is the main attacking figure after scoring seven league goals in eight matches. His movement between centre-backs, timing inside the penalty area and finishing have made him one of the early-season revelations. Fares Ghedjemis and Giorgi Kvernadze add speed and creativity from wider areas, while Romano Schmid arrives in excellent form after scoring twice against Atalanta. Calo and Patrizio Masini are important in midfield, with Calo controlling set pieces and distribution while Masini adds defensive running. Matteo Cittadini and Lorenzo Calvani remain important at the back, supported by Anthony Oyono, Gabriele Bracaglia and Terzic. Lorenzo Palmisani continues in goal. The injury situation is relatively manageable, with Calvani back in action and Terzic available again. Florian Grillitsch remains the main absence as he continues his recovery from surgery and is not expected back until November.

Lecce

Lecce remain inconsistent but have shown enough quality to be dangerous when their transition game works. After eight rounds, Di Francesco's side sit 12th with nine points and a 9-14 goal difference, having recorded three wins and five defeats. Their recent pattern has been extremely uneven. A 3-2 home victory over Monza was followed by defeats against Milan and Bologna, before Lecce produced an impressive 3-0 away win at Udinese. Kialonda Gaspar opened the scoring from a corner, Christian N'Dri doubled the advantage before half-time and Jamil Siebert completed the result late on. The following match against Juventus was completely different. Lecce conceded twice before the break and struggled to create enough danger after half-time, eventually losing 2-0. The contrast between those two performances highlights how dependent this team remains on game state and transition opportunities.

Di Francesco prefers a 4-3-3 based on aggressive pressing, quick ball movement and width from the attacking players. Lecce want to progress rapidly through midfield and involve the full-backs, particularly when the wingers move inside. Against Udinese, the approach worked very well because Lecce recovered second balls, pressed high and attacked quickly before the opposition could reorganise. Juventus exposed the other side of the system by closing central passing lanes and forcing the hosts into less effective wide deliveries. Lecce can also become vulnerable after turnovers because the midfield does not always recover quickly enough. At Benito Stirpe, Di Francesco is likely to be more selective with the press, especially with defensive personnel missing. Giving Frosinone large spaces to attack would be extremely dangerous, so a more compact and patient version of Lecce should be expected.

Willem Geubbels and N'Dri remain the main attacking options. Geubbels offers movement and physical presence but has struggled for consistent finishing, while N'Dri provides greater speed and can attack space from wider starting positions. Amin Fatah, Nikola Stulic and Paco Esteban give Di Francesco alternatives from the bench. Ylber Maleh, Mohamed Kaba and Oumar Ngom carry much of the midfield responsibility, with Maleh progressing possession, Kaba competing for second balls and Ngom helping maintain balance. Tiago Gabriel and Danilo Veiga are important defensively, while Antonino Gallo provides width from the left. Wladimiro Falcone remains the first-choice goalkeeper. The biggest concern is Gaspar's suspension after his red card against Juventus, while Gabriel is also doubtful with a knee problem. Medon Berisha, Lassana Coulibaly, Ivan Ilic and Santiago Pierotti remain outside the main group. Those absences could force Di Francesco to use an unfamiliar central defensive pairing against one of the league's most productive strikers.

Recent results:

  • Lecce 0-2 Juventus

  • Udinese 0-3 Lecce

  • Lecce 1-2 Bologna

  • AC Milan 3-0 Lecce

  • Lecce 3-2 Monza

Recent history favors Lecce, who have won three of the last five meetings, with the other two ending in draws. Frosinone have not won any of those games, but the more relevant trend for this matchup is the scoring profile. None of the five produced more than three total goals.

The latest meeting ended 1-1 in March 2024, while the previous game at Frosinone finished 0-0. The squads and coaches have changed significantly since then, and Frosinone's current attacking style is far more aggressive, but the series still provides some evidence that Lecce are capable of slowing this opponent down.

Lecce Could Force Frosinone Into a Different Type of Game

➥ Frosinone's last two league matches produced 14 total goals, so a low-scoring angle may look counterintuitive. The context of those games matters, however. Atalanta willingly played at a high tempo and left space after pressing, while Sassuolo repeatedly made defensive mistakes that Raimondo punished ruthlessly.

➥ Lecce should approach the match differently. After losing to Juventus and with Gaspar suspended, Di Francesco has strong reasons to prioritise defensive spacing rather than engage in an open exchange. Limiting the service into Raimondo and keeping Schmid, Calo and Terzic from arriving freely around the box will be central to the plan.

➥ The visitors' own attacking numbers also support a more controlled scenario. Lecce scored three at Udinese but failed to find the net against both Milan and Juventus. They are far less dangerous when opponents deny transition space and force them to build through established defensive blocks.

➥ Frosinone themselves may also become slightly more cautious after conceding eight times in three rounds. Alvini will not abandon his attacking principles, but there is a difference between controlling possession aggressively and allowing another chaotic game to develop.

Defensive Absences Create Risk, but the Matchup Still Favors a Lower Total

- The biggest concern for an under selection is Lecce's defensive personnel. Gaspar is suspended and Gabriel may also miss out, leaving Di Francesco potentially reliant on a reshuffled central pairing against Raimondo, who has seven goals already.

- Frosinone also have multiple scoring threats. Raimondo did not score in the 4-4 draw with Atalanta, yet Schmid, Calo and Terzic all contributed. Lecce therefore cannot simply focus on the centre-forward and assume the rest of the attack will become harmless.

- Still, the visitors rarely participate in sustained high-scoring games. Only one of their last five matches produced at least four goals, and their offensive output is not strong enough to assume they will contribute heavily to another shootout.

- Recent head-to-head history points the same way. All five previous meetings stayed at three total goals or fewer, and a tactical reset from Lecce after the Juventus defeat makes a scoreline such as 1-1, 2-0 or 2-1 entirely realistic.

Match Prediction

Frosinone are one of the most entertaining teams in Serie A right now, but the recent 4-2 and 4-4 scorelines do not necessarily mean another wide-open match is inevitable. Alvini's side have enough attacking quality through Raimondo, Schmid and Calo to create chances, yet the defensive problems from the previous three rounds may encourage slightly more control. Lecce, meanwhile, have little reason to trade attacks given their defensive absences and inconsistent finishing.

The main danger is that Lecce's reshuffled back line concedes early, forcing the visitors to abandon the cautious plan and push forward. Even so, Di Francesco's team generally produce lower totals, while five straight head-to-head meetings have finished with no more than three goals. With Lecce likely to defend more compactly and Frosinone potentially showing greater respect for game management after recent defensive chaos, under 3.5 goals offers a useful margin.
