Torino vs Como. Serie A 2026/27, Matchday 9. October 27, 2026 | Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, Turin | 21:45.

Torino Have Won Three Straight, but Como Return to Turin After Two Huge Head-to-Head Victories Last Season

Three consecutive league wins have helped Torino put a difficult start behind them and move closer to the European places. Ignazio Abate's side have also found another gear in attack, scoring eight goals across their last three Serie A matches. Their next opponent, however, brings particularly unpleasant memories after Como won last season's two meetings by remarkable 5-1 and 6-0 scorelines.

Cesc Fabregas' team are now fourth in Serie A and arrive in excellent form after beating Manchester United 4-1 in the Champions League and following it with a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo. The schedule has been demanding, though, and several injuries reduce the visitors' options. Torino therefore have a realistic opportunity to show how much they have improved and make this matchup far more competitive than it was a year ago.

Torino

Torino have gradually built momentum under Abate and look considerably more convincing than they did at the start of the campaign. After eight rounds, the Granata sit seventh with 13 points and a +2 goal difference, recording four wins, one draw and three defeats. The turnaround began after a 2-0 loss to Roma. Torino then drew 1-1 at Bologna before beating Udinese 2-1 and producing an impressive 3-0 away win at Parma, where Giovanni Simeone scored twice and Che Adams added another. The winning streak continued on October 23 with a 3-2 home success against Monza. Kian Fitz-Jim opened the scoring, Rafik Belghali and Nikola Vlasic later extended the lead, and although an own goal from Nathan Patterson created a nervous finish, Torino held on. It was their third consecutive Serie A victory, something they had not achieved for seven years.

Abate has recently preferred a 4-4-2 built around compact defending, aggressive midfield work and quick progression once possession is recovered. The system allows Simeone and Adams to play together while Vlasic and Rolando Mandragora help move the ball through central areas. Width is also important, particularly through Belghali, whose runs from the right have become a regular source of danger. Torino can switch into a back three when Abate wants greater protection around the penalty area, but the defensive structure is still not flawless. They sometimes retreat too deeply after taking the lead, while the wide players do not always recover quickly enough when possession is lost. Monza found several useful spaces despite trailing, and those same gaps could be much more dangerous against Como's technically gifted attackers.

Simeone and Adams remain the main attacking references. Simeone's movement, pressing and instinct inside the box were on full display with his brace at Parma, while Adams offers physical strength, combination play and runs beyond the defensive line. Sandro Kulenovic provides another powerful option from the bench. Vlasic, Mandragora and Fitz-Jim are central to the midfield structure, with Vlasic adding creativity and goal threat, Mandragora controlling the tempo and Fitz-Jim moving intelligently between the lines. Daniel Braganca and Gvidas Gineitis give Abate additional depth. Saul Coco, Ardian Ismajli and Pietro Comuzzo are important defensive options, with Lucas Perri in goal. Ricardo Rodriguez remains out with a thigh problem, Emirhan Ilkhan is recovering from an adductor injury, Niccolo Fortini is doubtful, and Franco Israel is unavailable because of a shoulder issue. The positive news is that Torino's main attacking players are all fit.

Como

Como continue to exceed expectations and are increasingly looking like genuine contenders for the European places. Fabregas' team have 17 points from eight rounds and sit fourth, five behind leaders Lazio, with five wins, two draws and only one defeat. Their +7 goal difference reflects the balance of a side that can control possession but also attack with real speed. After a 0-0 home draw with Roma and a 3-2 Champions League defeat at Feyenoord, Como responded with three consecutive victories. They beat Fiorentina 3-1 away through goals from Mattia Liberali, Nico Paz and Anastasios Douvikas, then produced a major statement by defeating Manchester United 4-1 on October 21. Paz scored twice, with Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon also on target. Three days later, Fabregas rotated several players and still beat Sassuolo 2-0, with Douvikas scoring both goals after the break.

Fabregas' preferred 4-2-3-1 is built around controlled possession, aggressive pressing and constant movement between the opposition lines. Como try to create numerical superiority in midfield, involve the full-backs high up the pitch and give Paz freedom to receive in central pockets where he can either accelerate the attack or shoot from distance. They are also comfortable playing out from the back under pressure, a principle that worked particularly well against Manchester United once the first line was bypassed. The risks are familiar. Losing the ball in central areas can leave the defence exposed to direct transitions, while advanced full-backs create space on the outside if Como fail to counterpress immediately. After a demanding Champions League week, Fabregas must also manage fatigue carefully, especially if he wants his team to maintain the same pressing intensity in the second half.

Douvikas has become the main attacking figure with five Serie A goals in eight rounds and has scored in four consecutive competitive matches. His movement behind centre-backs and ability to attack deliveries from wide areas make him particularly difficult to track. Moise Kean remains another important option but is still recovering from a shin injury and may not be ready to return. Jayden Addai and Paz provide additional creativity, with Paz especially important as the main link between midfield and attack. Maximo Perrone, Luis Milla and Maxence Caqueret form the central foundation, while Martin Baturina and Luca Da Cunha add further technical depth. Jacobo Ramon and Marc-Oliver Kempf remain central defensive figures, supported by Ivan Smolcic, Yan Couto and Alex Valle, with Jean Butez in goal. Assane Diao is still recovering from a muscular problem, Trevoh Chalobah is out with a leg injury, and Jesus Rodriguez was injured in training. Liberali has also experienced shin discomfort, although a return is possible.

Como have won three of the last five official meetings, while Torino have taken two. The most recent two were extremely one-sided, with Fabregas' side winning 5-1 in Turin before producing an even more dominant 6-0 home victory in January 2026. Douvikas scored twice in the latter meeting as Como controlled almost every phase of the game.

The current Torino look significantly different from the team that suffered those defeats. Abate has improved their transition play, the attack is producing goals from several sources and confidence is much higher after three straight wins. The earlier 1-0 home victories over Como are less relevant to the current squads, but they do underline that this matchup has not always been as one-sided as last season's scorelines suggest.

Torino's Improved Attack Can Make This a Much Closer Matchup

● The strongest argument for Torino is their recent offensive progress. Eight goals across three league rounds show that Abate's team are no longer relying exclusively on defensive discipline and counterattacks. Simeone and Adams are giving the centre-backs constant problems, while Vlasic and Fitz-Jim are contributing more effectively from deeper positions.

● That matters against Como because Fabregas' system leaves space when the press is broken. The full-backs push high, and the central defenders can be forced into wide areas if opponents move quickly after regaining possession. Torino have the forwards to attack those spaces, particularly if Adams can hold up the first pass and release Simeone or Vlasic into transition.

● The hosts should also be more aggressive psychologically after last season's two humiliating defeats. Playing at home after three consecutive wins gives them a much better platform than they had in those meetings, and Abate is unlikely to allow his side to become as stretched as before.

● The obvious danger is Como's individual quality. Paz is capable of controlling the game between the lines, while Douvikas is in outstanding form. If Torino fail to protect central areas or allow Como to settle into long spells of possession, the visitors have enough technical quality to create another difficult night.

Como's Schedule Makes the Handicap More Attractive

Como's form is excellent, but the workload is heavy. They have played three competitive matches in seven days, including a high-intensity Champions League victory over Manchester United. Fabregas rotated against Sassuolo, yet maintaining the same physical level in another away game is still a challenge.

The injury list also matters. Chalobah and Diao are unavailable, Kean is not fully fit and other attacking options have dealt with physical issues. Como remain deep enough to cope, but the margin for rotation is smaller than it would be with a fully healthy squad.

Torino, by comparison, have had more recovery time and can field their main attacking group. That difference could become especially important after the hour mark, when Como's pressing intensity may begin to drop and the home side can attack more directly.

The head-to-head results create a clear warning because Como scored 11 goals across last season's two meetings. Even so, the current context is different. Torino are in much better form, their attack is functioning and the visitors are coming through a demanding stretch. A narrow Como win remains possible, but the +1 handicap protects Torino if the match develops into the tighter contest their recent progress suggests.

Prediction

Como deserve respect as the higher-ranked side and arrive after three impressive victories, including the 4-1 Champions League win over Manchester United. Paz and Douvikas are in excellent form, and last season's 5-1 and 6-0 results show how badly Torino can be punished if they lose structure. However, Abate's side have improved significantly, winning three consecutive league matches and scoring eight goals during that run. At home, with Simeone, Adams and Vlasic all available, Torino should be capable of creating enough pressure to avoid another one-sided contest.

The main concern for the hosts is that Como still possess more technical quality and can dominate central areas if allowed to settle. Yet Fabregas' team have played three times in a week and are dealing with several injuries, while Torino enter with fresher legs and greater confidence. The +1 line also offers useful protection because a one-goal Como victory results in a push. Given Torino's attacking improvement, home advantage and the visitors' schedule, backing the Granata with a goal start looks reasonable.
